Beschreibung
"Women now make up the majority of immigrants entering Switzerland. Popular, political and academic discourses view immigrant women as poorly integrated, poorly educated and as victims of exploitation. Immigration and integration policies reflect this view. Recent research suggests that the reality of migrant women is far more diverse, and that official policies are therefore inadequate. Both the discourses and the integration policies need to reflect the diversity of situations, but the knowledge-base needed to guide rethinking is lacking. This project aims at contributing to filling the gap in knowledge by: (a) investigating processes of social integration and social exclusion of two different groups of migrant women, differentiated by nation of origin, ethnocultural characteristics and occupational skills, (b) addressing the strategies that migrant women adopt to strive for social integration, and (c) examining the contents and effects of prevailing discourses and official policies regarding the social integration of migrant women."
